James Wiederstein

Former Marion resident and oilfield and refinery worker James Wiederstein, 84, of McPherson died July 6 at McPherson Hospital.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Empire Cemetery, Galva. A memorial fund has been established with the American Legion Riders Chapter 24.

Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Galva to Albert and Elizabeth (Goertz) Wiederstein, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the El Dorado American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Ann Shafer of Galva and Karen Vogts of Canton; a brother, Dean Wiederstein of Inman; a sister Mary Jane Tatro of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded by his parents and three sisters, Minnie Davis, Helen Crane, and Edna Rucker.
