James Spexarth

James J. Spexarth, 88, of Marion passed Jan. 8, 2018, at Midland Hospice in Topeka.

James was born Feb. 17, 1929, to Ben J. and Katie (Doffing) Spexarth in Colwich, Kansas. He was one of seven boys and three girls.

James entered seminary at age 12 at St. Meinrad Archabbey, Indiana. He attended Catholic University in Washington, District of Columbia, where he obtained a degree in canon law. He was ordained by Bishop Carroll on May 3, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church in Colwich, Kansas.

He served as parish priest at the Saint Gabriel in Mulberry, Kansas; St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, Kansas; St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo, Kansas; St. Patrick Catholic Church in Florence, Kansas; and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Burns, Kansas. James retired in 1990.

James is survived by brothers Ralph, Leo, and Paul Spexarth, all of Colwich; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Private services have been held.
