Jackie Goodwin

Jackie “Jack” Eugene Goodwin, 88, of Akron, Colo., died Thursday. He was born June 17, 1925, to Pearley and Carrie Goodwin in Mendota, Mo.

At a young age, he moved with his family to Burns where he farmed the family homestead with his father and brothers. He joined the Merchant Marines and served from 1944 to 1945.

He married Loyette Helper on Aug. 19, 1949, in Newton. Loyette preceded him in death in 1989. Jack continued farming in the Burns area. Later, he worked repairing railroad cars in Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma, including owning his own business.

He met Marjory Lambertson in Sterling, Colo., and they moved to Woodward, Okla., in 1991. They married on March 11, 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Marjory; a son, John Goodwin of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Dianna Nuessen of Little Rock, Ark.; stepchildren Bobbi Hawkinson of Akron, Don Lambertson of Akron, Cheryl Wynn of Arvada, Colo., Patti Bashor of Greeley, Colo., Debbie Lucas of Greeley, and Terri Butz of Loveland, Colo.; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Loyette; two brothers, Phillip and Chester; and a grandson.

A funeral service was Tuesday at Foursquare Church in Akron. Interment was to be at 2 p.m. today in the Burns Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established with Washington County Nursing Home, Akron, Colo.
