It’s the great pumpkin

Staff writer

Students from Hillsboro Elementary second grade classes went searching for the great pumpkin Thursday.

In brisk wind, teachers Michele Berens and Rebecca Kaufman and two paraeducators watched as 44 second-graders ran around looking at all the pumpkins near Mustang and 290th Rds.

There were big and small pumpkins. Some had warts. Colors ranged from red, orange, and yellow to white and green striped.

Students will draw a picture of their pumpkin, measure height and circumference and weigh the gourds at school before taking them home at the end of the day.

The outing is arranged with Jirak Brothers Produce after the season is over, Berens said.

Once a student picked his or her favorite gourd, teachers initialed it and told the students to run around and have fun.
