Insurance candidate speaks in Marion

News editor

Ken Selzer, a candidate in the Republican primary for state insurance commissioner, went around Marion on March 26 speaking to different groups about his candidacy.

Selzer said insurance is a very technical topic, and he wants to help Kansans make better buying decisions. He has spent 32 years working in insurance and reinsurance.

He grew up 5 miles north of Goessel on K-15, graduated from Goessel High School, and received an accounting degree from Kansas State University. He then received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California. He also is a certified public accountant.

“We can do good things for Kansas with my insurance background and business credentials,” he said.

Selzer said he wants to increase competition in insurance markets.

“We’re going to bring good business practices to an important state department,” he said.

The primary will be Aug. 5.
