Indoor sale beats the heat

Staff writer

Marion resident Shannon Ehlers had been planning a garage sale for a month, but the 100-degree heat last week altered her plan.

“In the past few days, we decided it’s too hot,” Ehlers said Friday. “So we moved it indoors.”

Ehlers sold holiday decorations, furniture, and crafting materials out of her three-story home so she had less stuff to take to the Ehlers’ new home out in the country.

The sale was a success, with nearly all the large furniture marked as sold within three hours. The Ehlers laughed along with neighbors in the kitchen while buyers browsed downstairs, their mini Aussie weaving around legs to sniff at strangers.

“We’re just waiting for someone to bring the beer!” Ehlers’ husband said.
