Richard Schaffer

Richard Schaffer, 81, Marion, passed away Nov. 15, 2021.

He was born Feb. 7, 1940, near La Crosse. His parents were Alex and Rosalia (Legleiter) Schaffer.

The youngest of 10 children, he attended elementary and high school in La Crosse, then joined the Navy. While in the military for four years, he served at Adak, Alaska, and Nicosia, Cyprus.

On Aug. 31, 1964, he married Mary Virginia Kreutzer in La Crosse.

He later went to college and graduated from the University of Kansas as a physical therapist. He practiced physical therapy for 35 years.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Virginia; a son, Kevin, and Kevin’s wife, Rhonda; a daughter, Loreen Gates; granddaughters Melanie Garrett, Mackenzie Dinstel, and Allison Birklid; and great-grandson Aren Dinstel.

His only living sibling is his sister, Dorothy Cavanagh.
