EXPANDED EULOGIES

Richard Sardou

Services will be 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at 25 Jerome for Richard Victorian Sardou, Jr, 76, of Marion County Lake, who passed away Aug. 8 surrounded by family.

He was born May 27, 1947, in Glendale, California, the son of Richard Victorian Sardou, Sr and Ruth Emily (Dodge) Sardou.

Rick served in the army from 1966-1969 and was awarded a national defense service medal. Before being deployed to Europe, he married Marjory Marie Burke Nov. 11, 1966.

He graduated from Emporia State University and went on to achieve his broker’s license. Desk jobs, he later learned, weren’t for him.

Rick started Sardou Carpentry and spent most of his working years remodeling and building homes, including his own. He had a knack for figuring things out, and he could make anything out of wood.

After a full life of woodworking, his later years led him in the direction of his artistic talents. He chainsaw carved bears, Santa Claus, an orchestra of chipmunks, fish, and anything a customer would order. Rick also built tables, chairs, spiral staircases, a play stove and baby cradle, an adult rocking horse, and so much more. He created over 20 bear statues for the 54th St. Bar and Grills in the Kansas City area. Rick and his late wife, Linda (married July 27, 2005), created carved screen doors, gun cabinets, bookcases, and wall art. Rick and Linda, also, ran “The Outdoors Inn,” which was a bed and breakfast in their home at the lake.

In his latest years, Rick was an avid reader. He loved reading stories and was so great at telling them. His family and friends have all loved hearing these stories over the years, and they have brought much laughter. His annual fishing trip to Frenchman’s Lake in Canada was something he always looked forward to. He loved the outdoors, this lake’s beauty, fishing, beer, stories, laughter, close friends, and family.

Survivors include son Jared Sardou and fiancé, Angela Markley of Lincolnville; daughter Brett Lynn Sardou of Clearwater; grandchildren, Dalton Sardou, Savanna Sardou, Kalia Spencer, and Kiera Spencer; siblings, Mark Sardou of Overland Park, Susan (Ron) Honea of Fruita, Colorado, and Ruthanne Reich of Kingman, Arizona.
