MaryAnn McCallum
Mass of Christian Burial for MaryAnn McCallum, 88, who died Monday at her home in Strong City, will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Strong City.
Father Andrew Seiler will officiate. Parish rosary will be 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Private inurnment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Born Feb. 19, 1933, in Wichita to Henry and Leonie (Lalouette) Waner. MaryAnn graduated from Florence High School and attended Kansas Newman University.
MaryAnn had unwavering faith and was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
She was active in the Altar Society, was one of the first female Eucharistic ministers in Kansas, and prepared the altar weekly for many years.
MaryAnn also was also a member of Rainbow Garden Club, volunteered delivering meals on wheels for the Chase County Senior Center, and was the first woman to serve on the Chase County board of education.
She married C. Donald Horst on Feb. 25, 1952. He died March 22, 1970. On July 17, 1976, she married George “Dan” McCallum in Strong City. He died Oct. 13, 2006.
MaryAnn is survived by children Mike Horst (and wife Nancy) of Elmdale, Gracia Roberts (and husband Ed) of Wichita, Dan Horst of Elmdale, Donna Cahoone (and husband Mike) of Strong City, Theresa Ross (and husband Mike) of Newton, and Chrissie Bolander (and husband Perry) of Milford; grandchildren Jennifer Horst, Emily Horst, Erik Hatten, Lucas Hatten, Charley Horst, Crystal Kletchka, J.D. Clark, Mary Clark, Katie Ross, Alex Ross, Nathan Duff, Logan Duff, Justin Dunagan, Kenzie Dunagan, and Marissa Dunagan; 10 great grandchildren; one great great-grandson; four step-children; and numerous step-grandchildren.
Other survivors include siblings Dian Rusk (and husband Bob) of Wichita and Donnie Waner (and wife Wilma) of Hillsboro; brother-in-law Fred Horst (and wife Marilyn) of Joplin; brother-in-law Dick McCallum (and wife Beverly) of Bristol, Tennessee; and daughter-in-law, Betty Dunagan of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alfred Waner and Ernie Waner, daughter Cynthia Dunagan, grandson Seth Dunagan, and son-in-law Mike Dunagan.
