Janie Hodges

Janice “Janie” Marie Hodges, 86, Peabody, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 24, surrounded by her family.

Janie was born on Jan. 14, 1933, in Hill City, to Leslie and Hilda (Lachenmaier) Baskins. She was the youngest of three girls.

She was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1951. On Oct. 14, 1952, she married Mike Hodges in Peabody, and they had five children. Janie was a lifetime member of the Peabody United Methodist Church and a member of the Sorosis Beta Club. Janie was a homemaker and worked sales at Baker Furniture for many years. She enjoyed typesetting, upholstering, wall papering, and sewing.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters Neva and Rosalee.

Survived by her children Beth and Ernie Medina, Pond Creek, Oklahoma, Ellen and Jim Schoenthal, Holdrege, Nebraska, Michael and Robin Hodges, Salina, Preston and Lisa Hodges, Peabody, Casey and Gidget Hodges, Phoenix, Arizona, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous, much loved, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Peabody United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Friday. A private family inurnment will follow later that day. Arrangements are by Baker Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be directed to Peabody United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
