Gordon Smith

Gordon B. Smith, 64, passed away Dec. 21, 2018, at his home in Florence with his family by his side. Graveside services were to be at 11 a.m. Dec. 27, 2018, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Salina.

Gordon was born Sept. 26, 1954, in Salina to Troy and Gladys Smith.

In 1972, Gordon joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served on the USS Midway off the coast of the Philippines.

One of Gordon’s joys in life was helping others less fortunate and ensuring everyone had a smile. No one who met Gordon forgot his infectious goofiness and huge heart. His greatest passion and blessing was his family and being a mentor to many young individuals. He will forever be cherished and loved.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Betty Smith, of Florence; daughter Emelie Schroeder and son-in-law Neil Schroeder of McPherson; daughter Kelly Smith of Hutchinson; stepdaughter Sara Goodson and son-in-law Chad Goodson of Derby; stepdaughter Ashley Taylor of Wichita; and first wife Carol Smith of McPherson; granddaugher Alex Schroeder; and five grandsons, Conner, Kylar, Connor, Parker, and Jayce.

He also is survived by brothers Gregg, Chris, Troy and Mark Smith and sisters Kim Shea, Cindy Wait, and Monica Stahl. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Romayne Chrisman.

A memorial has been established with the Robert Dole V.A. Medical Center in Wichita in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.
