Gary Jones
A celebration of life for Gary L. Jones, 88, who died Jan. 28, 2022, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, where he had been a resident for more than three years, will take place later.
Gary was born July 18, 1933, in Dexter to Emory and Virgia Radcliff Jones. He was united in marriage Sept. 2, 1951, to Marilyn Rowe, and they were married for more than 70 years.
Gary was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State University) and received his master’s degree from Kansas State University. He served two years in the U.S. Army after graduation from Oklahoma A&M.
He taught vocational agriculture at Ford and Peabody for 36 years, 32 of those in Peabody. He loved farming, raising sheep, and searching for antiques.
He operated Mayesville Mercantile in downtown Peabody after retiring from teaching.
He was preceded in death by Emory and Virgia Jones and sister, Rosalie Jones Lanham.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Peabody; son Mike Jones DVM (and wife Tresa Vogelman) of Seneca; daughter Lynn Hughes (and husband Marc) of Carney, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Peabody Community Foundation, the Kansas FFA Foundation, or a remembrance of your choice.
