Doris Winkler

Doris J. Winkler, 77, Marion, passed away Dec. 25, 2020, at Newton Medical Center.

Doris’ life began May 21, 1943, on the way to the Marion hospital from Lincolnville.

She was the daughter of William and Grace (Nienstedt) Richmond.

Doris was a 1961 graduate of Centre High School.

She was united in marriage to Gene Winkler on Aug. 12, 1961, and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage together.

Doris began working for the Marion County Research and Extension office in 1962 and continued at the Extension Office for the next 55 years.

Doris enjoyed travelling with Gene on their motorcycle all over the United States and on bus tours.

She enjoyed serving the community through her work at the Marion County Food Bank and volunteering at the Marion Senior Center.

Doris was an active parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Marion, volunteering with the Altar Society and giving of her time in the office. She and Gene also provided cleaning services for several area businesses.

Doris’ loving family includes her husband, Gene, of Marion; children Bruce Winkler and Sherri Hess, both of Marion; and grandchildren Macy (and husband Jacob) Harper, Kelli (and husband Bryant) Brunner, Erika Hess, Jake Hess, and Averi Thornhill, and great-grandchild Tatum Harper, all of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Her family gathered with friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 27 at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion.

Her private family Mass of Christian Burial led by Father Brian Bebak was Monday. Doris was laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.
