Donald N. Depler
Donald Niles Depler, 89, passed away Aug. 14, 2015, at his home, 807 North Olive St., Peabody, Kansas 66866-1358.
He was born Dec. 15, 1925, at Axtel Hospital in Newton, Kansas, the youngest of three children of Earnest Floyd Depler and Dora Mae Logan.
He resided in Peabody, Kansas, from 1982 until 2015.
Don attended country school on Hillsboro Cut Off Rd., Peabody, Kansas, through eighth grade, then attended Peabody High School until 1942 as a junior.
On Aug. 25, 1943, Don entered the United States Navy, serving until Jan. 12, 1944. Then he was in Naval Reserves until Jan. 12, 1955.
On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Wavo Marie Dover in Leavenworth, Kansas. They have two daughters and four sons: Garry Dean Depler, Harvey Lee Depler, Vickie Sue (Depler) Box, Rick Lee Depler, Linda Kay (Depler) Fisher, and Daniel Jay Depler.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Wavo Marie (Dover) Depler, nephew Jimmy Depler, his parents, brother Maurice Depler, sister-in-law Olive Esme Depler, sister Eldena Depler, granddaughter Angela K. Depler, and great-grandson Colby Charles Cain.
He is survived by two daughters, Vickie Sue (Depler) Box and husband Mike Box of Florence, Kansas and Linda Gay (Depler) Fisher and husband Charlie Fisher of Peabody, Kansas; four sons, Garry D. Depler of Wichita, Kansas, Harvey L. Depler and wife Linda Mae of Wichita, Kansas, Rick L. Depler and wife Linda Lea of Fort Worth, Texas, and Daniel J. Depler and wife Ann of Florence, Kansas; two nephews, three nieces, 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Baker Funeral Home, 114 Sycamore St., Peabody, Kansas. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Christian Church at Division and Sycamore, Peabody, Kansas, with Pastor Jim Pohlman officiating. Burial was at Prairie Lawn Cemetery at Peabody, Kansas.
A memorial has been established with American Lung Association.
