Christopher Schafers
Christopher Joseph Schafers was born April 7, 1957, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, the fourth child of Victor Augustine and Madonna Schafers.
Christopher was a graduate of Emporia High School in Emporia, Kansas. He enlisted in the Navy soon after. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Rich, USS Marvin Shields, USS Laws, and USS Decatur.
He received a medical discharge in November of 1980. He was employed by the Environmental Protection Agency and San Diego naval base.
He returned to the Midwest and took a position at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, then transferred to Fort Riley military base in Kansas.
He earned his bachelor of business degree in 2017 from McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas.
He was a member of the American Legion and Good News Christian Fellowship Church in Marion, Kansas.
Christopher passed away on Feb. 13 at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
He is survived by his mother, Madonna Schafers of Marion, Kansas; brother Victor J. Schafers of Wichita; five sisters, Deborah Cisneras, Teresita Williams, and Tina Hulett, all of Emporia, Helena Frizell of Indianola, Iowa, and Mary Raleigh of Marion, Kansas; 17 nephews and nieces; and 15 great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Augustine Schafers; two sisters, Madonna Annette Hedgecock and Geraldine Ann Schafers; and an infant brother, Herman Joseph Schafers.
