Cecilia Gayle

Mass of Christian Burial for Cecilia Mary Gayle, 88, Florence, who passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at her home in Florence, will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence.

Her family gathered with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the church. Rosary was prayed that evening at 7 p.m.

She will be laid to rest in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Florence.

Cecilia’s life began Sept. 11, 1934, in Wichita. Her parents were August Lalouette and Mary Clothier Lalouette.

Cecilia was raised on the Clothier ranch near Cedar Point by her grandparents, George and Nellie Clothier.

She graduated from Cedar Point High School in 1954 and was class valedictorian.

On Oct. 2, 1954, Cecilia was united in marriage to Robert B. “Bob” Gayle in St. Petersburg, Virginia.

Cecilia enjoyed growing and sharing flowers with friends, ceramic work, sewing, and all types of crafting.

She also enjoyed flying in small planes and taking in Flint Hills scenery.

She was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was devoted to praying the rosary.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Robert Gayle Jr. and wife Dana of Florence; Maria Walker of Moundridge; Joseph Gayle and wife Betty of Hillsboro; Stephen Gayle and wife (Jolene) of Florence; David Gayle of Charleston, South Carolina; and Amber Gayle of Florence.

Also surviving are grandchildren Charity James, Erica Balko, Samantha Gayle, Tom Godwin, Scott Eason, Daniel Walker, Nicholas Walker, Andrea Fiedler, Andrew Gayle, Elisa Forbes, Joshua Gayle, Amy Gayle, Jackie Gayle, Jessica Gayle, David Gayle, Jr, Sabra Bates and Devan Ephraums.

Great-grandchildren include Gracelyn James, Henry Balko, Gabriel Balko, William Eason, Henry Eason, Vincent Walker, Alexander Walker, Gabriel Walker, Marissa Gauthier, Landon Gayle, Addie Gayle, Samson Forbes and Oskar Gayle.

Great-great-grandchildren Emberly Bates and Jamison Bates also survive as do two brothers, Larry and Leslie Lalouette; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful puppy, Calvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Yazel-Megli Funeral Home is serving the family.
