Almeda Kahns

Almeda May Kahns, 92, a longtime resident of Lincolnville, passed away Dec. 22, 2018, in Chandler, Arizona. She was born June 1, 1926, to H. Harold and Mamie Hurt in Wilsey.

Almeda was a graduate of Lincolnville High School. On Jan. 20, 1946, she married Alvin “Shorty” Kahns who ran Shorty’s Standard Station in Lincolnville.

Almeda lived most of her life in Lincolnville and enjoyed crocheting and quilting and spending many hours at the Marion Senior Center.

She drove a kindergarten school bus for years, caring for many children. Years later, as a daycare provider, she took care of some of the children of those original bus riders.

Small in stature but big in spirit, Almeda made a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Almeda is survived by her son, Dwayne, and his wife, Lisa Kahns, of Kimberling City, Missouri; her son, Randy, and his wife, Diane Kahns, of Lincolnville; and daughter Donna Wharton and partner Frank Brontsema of Chandler, Arizona.

Almeda had 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Almeda was preceded in death by her husband Shorty on Dec. 16, 1981, her parents H. Harold and Mamie Hurt, sister Doris Bowyer, and brother Gerald Hurt.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when she is laid to rest next to her husband Shorty in Lincolnville Cemetery, Lincolnville.
