Leah Claney

Leah Verlea Kohlman Claney, 100, retired food service worker, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018. Funeral services will be 10 a.m.

Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Claney Cemetery, Marion, Kansas.

Leah was born to parents Adolph Kohlman and Valeria (Shelton) Kohlman on June 18, 1918 in Marion County, one of 11 children.

She married Joe F. Claney Nov. 27, 1935. To this union three children were born: Robert Eugene, Joetta Ann, and Joe Wayne.

Leah worked in food service at Clapp Golf Course and Fourth National Bank, both in Wichita, and then worked 28 years for Wichita public schools as cafeteria manager at several schools.

She volunteered at Urban Ministries, helping give out food to those in need.

When she moved to Cherry Creek Assisted Living, she helped roll silverware and set tables.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Claney; daughter, Joetta Ann Stark; and nine siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Robert of Casper, Wyoming, and Joe of Wichita; sister, Pauline of Missouri; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
