How will candidates run the city?

Staff writer

Peabody mayoral and city council candidates have been invited to participate in a question and answer period at 7 p.m. March 25 at Peabody Senior Center.

Incumbent Peabody Mayor Larry Larsen is seeking another term. Peabody City Council member Steve Rose is challenging him for the position, leaving his own council seat open.

Two additional council positions also are open. Tim Peterson, appointed to fill the unexpired term of David Scott, and Travis Wilson, appointed to fill the unexpired term of Pam Lamborn, will both see their terms expire. Peterson has decided not to run again, but Wilson will seek another term.

Candidates, who have filed to fill the city council seats in addition to Wilson, are Joan Berg, Tim Caldwell, Megan Holt, and Kenny Rogers.

Peabody does not use a system of wards or precincts to determine who is eligible to run for office. All council positions are at-large positions. The three candidates with largest number of votes will win the three vacant seats.

Questions from the community should be turned in to the committee by 5 p.m. March 24. They may be deposited in the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin postal slot beneath the window to the left of the front door of Flint Hills Gypsies or posted on the Peabody page of Facebook.
