Hospital welcomes nurse practitioner

Staff writer

Jaynette Miller of rural Goessel began work Monday as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, in family practice at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

“We’ve been seeing 18 to 22 patients on a daily basis and it will be so nice to have two of us here to free up appointments,” said St. Luke Hospital ARNP Melissa Batteron.

Miller worked as a registered nurse for 18 years at Hillsboro Community Medical Center, alongside Batterton, before she went back to school and earned a master’s degree in acute care nursing in 1986 from Wichita State University.

She worked at Hunter Health Care in Wichita since then, gaining experience with home health care and chronically ill patients, many who were homeless or came from Native American backgrounds.

“I wasn’t particularly looking for a new position,” Miller said. “I saw the opening in the paper and actually was thinking about it, but when Melissa called me, it seemed like a good idea.”

Miller and her husband, Dan, live east of Goessel and have four grown children.

“I am happy to be working closer to home,” Miller said. “Dan and I always wanted to support Marion County more, and this fits well.”
