Hospital expansion limits parking

Staff writer

For about a month, employees and patients will have to shift their usual parking places at St. Luke Hospital.

Construction is under way on a 1,000-square-feet expansion of the hospital therapy department and addition of a larger dock for the purchasing department.

The hospital’s north employee parking lot is mostly taken over by construction equipment and supplies.

Parking for employees and visitors will be affected for the next month or so.

Only a few parking spaces will be available for employees.

Employees and visitors are being asked to use street parking through the end of the year or until notified otherwise.

Parking for people with disabilities and drop-off areas for the hospital and medical clinic are available on Freeborn St., They are available on Melvin St. for Marion County Home Care, and on Roosevelt St. for St. Luke Living Center.

The hospitals south parking lot is not affected.

People are being asked not to park on Maple St. near the county health department.

St. Luke Hospital Foundation director Michael Perigo said the temporary loss of parking in the north parking lot would cause some parking congestion on Freeborn, Melvin, Roosevelt and Maple Sts.

“Employees are asked to be considerate when parking in order to allow close-by parking for patients and visitors,” Perigo said.
