Hope in the Heartland

Spiritual zombies

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

I see dead people. They’re all over the place. They’re even in church regularly. I’m not talking about ghosts or actual zombies; I’m speaking of the spiritual condition of people who are outside of a saving relationship with Jesus Christ; people the Bible describes as dead in their trespasses and sins. I used to be one of them.

The Bible says that every person has sinned and put themselves in a state of spiritual deadness.

Spiritual zombies can hold down jobs, drive cars, and do all the usual things that make up a daily routine. They look normal on the outside. But their soul is lifeless. Their eternity is bleak to say the least.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Jesus — the resurrection and the life — came to offer new life, a life that comes from being born again. Faith in Him makes the transformation possible. He offers life by forgiving the sins that have brought death to our souls.

Come to Him … and live.
