HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND: Learning for life

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

Soon many a young man or a young woman will be traipsing across stages when their name is called. They’ll laugh or blush when their family and friends scream and holler various things while they cross the distance between the edge of the platform and the person holding their coveted diploma.

It’s a journey that will take only a few seconds, but it took years to get to this point. The graduate’s name will often be followed with information about awards they have won, honors they have achieved, and plans they have made.

The day will signify a significant milestone marker in their journey of life. A journey of learning — formal or informal — that lasts a lifetime. Now it’s on to the next lap and the hurdles that await.

In a sense, graduates are moving from one classroom to another. But in all the learning, past and present, there is really only one transcendent “textbook” that remains relevant through every part of our journey: the Bible. It serves as the compass along the way. It also puts all learning in context. It’s truths are well-traveled and travel well. Take it with you, graduate, and you will continue your most important education.
