HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND: Joseph and Jesus

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

“But the Lord was with Joseph …”

I’m currently preaching a series of messages on the Old Testament character named Joseph, I’m spending a lot of my time amazed by what this young man encountered. And I’m noticing a theme: God was with Joseph, not because of his circumstances, but IN SPITE of his circumstances. God had a plan for his life that included being abused by his jealous brothers, sold into slavery, then being forcibly removed from his homeland and taken to a foreign country. After that he was accused of a crime he didn’t commit and was thrown into jail, where he’d stay for a few years.

“But the Lord was with Joseph …”

You see, God had a plan and a perspective that Joseph didn’t possess. God planned to eventually cause Joseph to rise to a position where he’d be able to save the lives of his family, thus saving the people of God from extinction … the very people of God through whom Jesus would come many years later. It was all part of God’s plan of redemption.

It’s the very same God who has promised to always be with us. Do you trust His plan?
