Little Suzie knelt by her bed and prayed. When she arrived at the end of her prayer, she finished by praying, “Please take care of mommy, take care of daddy, take care of my sister and my brother, and please, God, take care of yourself, because if you don’t we’re all sunk. Amen.”
What a big perspective form a little girl! We would all be wise to understand that the “circle of life” begins and ends with God. That principle is true of each individual life and it is true concerning all of human history. God started it all and He will end it all. He knits us together in our mother’s womb (see Psalm 139) and he knows the exact moment when it will come to an end (see II Peter 3).
The sentiment in little Suzie’s prayer is certainly sweet, but Almighty God doesn’t need encouragement to take care of Himself. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present, and these elements of sovereignty will never change.
When it comes to the circle of life, we can fiddle with the middle but we can’t change the ultimate end. We are going to stand before Him someday. I hope that Jesus is standing with you on that day … or you’re sunk.
