County commissioners disagreed Monday when deciding the importance of a retaining wall addition to property at 12 Lakeshore Drive on Pioneer Court.
“No matter what we do, it’s a problem,” Chairman Randy Dallke said.
The road’s right-of-way is 50 feet and that would be 10½ feet into it, but Commissioner Dan Holub disagreed with allowing it, arguing it would set a precedent for others to further test the limits of the right-of-way.
“It just keeps going and going and going,” he said.
Dallke and Commissioner Roger Fleming eventually out-voted Holub to allow the wall’s construction, to which Holub conceded, under the circumstance that the owners assume liability for any possible damage.
Planning and Zoning Director Tonya Richards informed commissioners of plans to develop a new plat for Gary Dunnegan’s housing development near the county lake because of flood plain issues.
Nine of the lots in the original plat were in the flood plain, prompting Richards to recommend moving the lots further north, toward the county road.
The commission also:
- Discussed advertisement and implementation of recycling at the county’s transfer station with director Rollin Schmidt. Schmidt said the station is waiting on the distribution of bins to county communities, but is ready to begin single-stream recycling.
- Took note of employees receiving pay raises. In the road and bridge department, Adam Maag received a one-year raise from $2,021 to $2,061 a month. Greg Ballew and Jason Creevan received six-month raises, Ballew from $2,179 to $2,222, and Creevan from $1,981 to $2,021. Jessica Hajek and Kassidi Luthi received six-month raises in the appraiser’s office, Hajek from $1,804 to $1,981, and Luthi from $1,603 to $1,636.
