Hillsboro wrestlers finish 5th at Ellis

Hillsboro wrestling had a successful opening competition Friday at Ellis, placing fifth out of 12 schools in the Railer Round Robin, but the Trojans’ 91.5 team points were just 2 points behind 4th-place Stockton.

Seven wrestlers won at least one match for Hillsboro, and Ryder Nordstrom, Jordan Bachman, Tristan Rathbone, and Austin Rempel placed in the top-three of their weight classes.

Rathbone led the way by winning all his matches to place first among 160-pounders. Bachman and Rempel placed second in their divisions, and Nordstrom was third as a 145-pounder.

Marion wrestling canceled its trip to a Saturday tournament at Wellington.

The next competition will be Friday when Hillsboro and Marion jointly host Marion County Duals.
