Hillsboro beat El Dorado for third place Saturday in a tournament Douglass High School.

Trojans Sammie Saunders, Savannah Shahan, and Zaylee Werth were chosen for the all-tournament team.

Hillsboro beat Winfield, Douglas and El Dorado 2-0 and lost to Augusta and Garden Plain 2-0 and 2-1.

The Trojans were second in pool play after beating Winfield 25-14, 25-21 and Douglas 25-18, 25-8 but “came up short” against a very tall Augusta team, coach Sandy Arnold said.

Hillsboro lost 25-19, 25-19 to Augusta and to Garden Plain 25-19, 16-25, 25-23.

“We faced a very good Garden Plain team and played them very well to the end,” Arnold said. “Unfortunately, the ball didn’t bounce quite right and we lost a very close match.”

Arnold had to make last-minute changes to the lineup to be competitive.

“I was very pleased with how the girls handled the change,” she said.

The loss to Garden Plain put Hillsboro in the consolation match for third where the Trojans beat El Dorado 25-13, 25-16.
