Contributing writer

The Peabody-Burns Warriors boys basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday with a lopsided 64-26 loss to Hillsboro in first-round substate play at Hillsboro.

The Warriors suffered from poor shooting and turnovers as Hillsboro raced to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter. Xavier Jabary got Peabody-Burns on the scoreboard with a free throw late in the first quarter, which ended with the Trojans up 25-1.

Hillsboro built a 33-point lead before Gale Schroeder finally scored the Warriors’ first field goal on a drive down the lane at the 5:43 mark of the second quarter. Peabody-Burns made only 17 percent of its shots in the first half, trailing 44-9 at halftime.

Braxton Kyle led the Warriors in scoring with 6 points. Cody Partridge, Schroeder, and Jabary scored 5 points each.
