Hillsboro’s Sutton Redger won in his weight class and has a season record of 16-1.
Aaron Hein placed second in his weight class with a season record of 8-4.
“Herington was a great opportunity for our team to get a lot of mat time experience,” Hillsboro coach Scott O’Hare said, “as they hosted boys, girls, and JV divisions. Therefore, we were able to take everyone on the team that was healthy.
“The competitions this past week gave our wrestlers a good sense of where they are now and it exposed some things that we need to work on. Our focus needs to be on gaining confidence with each win and learning from each loss.”
Marion’s Brian Nguyen led the way for the Warriors over the weekend, finishing 4-1 on the day and placing third in his weight class.
Nguyen is now 10-3 for the season.
“Brian continues to be our leader of the team and shows the younger teammates how things should go,” Marion coach Tyler McMichael said. “We have a long way to go for our season if we want to qualify multiple kids to state in late February.
“Luckily we still have some time to correct these mistakes before then.”
Marion and Hillsboro will be in Halstead for a tournament this Friday and Saturday .
