Hillsboro grapplers pin down 6th place, Marion 11th at Eureka Invitational

Hillsboro and Marion High School wrestling teams both competed Saturday at the Eureka Invitational.

Hillsboro finished sixth out of 20 competing schools with 84.5 points while Marion came in 11th with 58.5.

Class 4A Rose Hill cruised to a first-place win, soundly beating runner-up hosting Eureka, 237.5-131.

Eleven wrestlers medaled, but Hillsboro’s 138-pound Garrett Helmer was the only one to earn a gold.

Marion’s Todd Palic suffered his first setback of the season, getting pinned by Rose Hill’s Tommy Rogers, with time running out in the second period of the 195-pound class’s title match.

Hillsboro’s Austin Rempel finished third at 195, and Marion’s Trevor Schafers also took third at 220.

The Trojans had a trio of fourth-place finishers with Jordan Bachman, 145 pounds, Tristan Rathbone, 152, and Deon Weeks, 220.

Ryder Norstrom and Anthony Fickes rounded out Hillsboro’s fifth-place finishers in the 145- and 113-pound class.

Marion’s Chance Shults was fifth in the 126-class and 120-pound Forest Slater came in sixth.
