Police report

Hillsboro police submitted the following report:

Oct. 10: An activated commercial alarm in Hillsboro Industrial Park was checked. Wind damage was reported at Hillsboro High School. A parking complaint was checked in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street. A noise complaint was reported. A dead animal was found hanging from a tree at Tabor College.

Oct. 11: The sheriff’s department received assistance with an injury accident. Assistance with a domestic disturbance on 190th Road was also provided to the sheriff’s department. A disturbance complaint was reported in the 300 block of North Main Street when an individual reported being yelled at by a neighbor. A bicycle was reported stolen from Hillsboro Elementary School. A civil stand-by was provided in the 300 block of East Grand Avenue. A car was reportedly scratched while parked at Hillsboro High School.

Oct. 12: A traffic complaint was checked at U.S. 56 and Santa Fe Street. Social and Rehabilitation Services received assistance with an investigation of possible sexual abuse. A theft was reported in Hillsboro Heights when someone reportedly took a cooler of beer from the back of a pickup. Officers assisted HHS students with mock employment interviews. A property dispute in the 400 block of North Ash Street was determined to be a civil matter. A parking complaint was checked at B and Ash streets. Assistance was provided to Kansas Bureau of Investigation with an investigation. A traffic complaint was checked in the 500 block of East First Street when an individual was reported using a lawn mower as a motor vehicle. SRS received assistance with an adult welfare investigation. A domestic disturbance in the 500 block of West First Street resulted in a Hillsboro woman being arrested for biting the finger of an adult male who shares the residence.

Oct. 13: Officers responded to a call of an abandoned vehicle behind 207 W. Grand Avenue after it had been driven through a fence and into a tree; the vehicle was later reported stolen from a Hillsboro residence. A theft report was filed in the 200 block of West Grand Avenue when an individual reported the theft of a dog kennel from behind a residence. A harassment complaint was filed in the 400 block of South Main Street, when an individual reported being texted by someone who had a protection from abuse order.

Oct. 14: An activated commercial alarm in the 600 block of East D Street was checked. Suspicious activity was reported in the 100 block of North Cedar Street. A report of juveniles with guns in the 100 block of South Jefferson Street was students with air rifles participating in a hunter safety class. A probation violation was reported in the 500 block of East D Street.

Oct. 15: Officers qualified with rifles and shotguns at the firing range. A grass fire was reported north of Hillsboro. A dog complaint was checked in the 100 block of South Ash Street. A domestic disturbance in the 100 block of North Birch Street was only a verbal confrontation between a male and a female. A second disturbance in the 100 block of North Birch Street resulted in the male being removed from the residence.

Oct. 16: City council packets were delivered. Assistance was provided to the sheriff’s department with a possible underage drinking party. Hillsboro Fire Department received assistance with a chair being set on fire at Tabor College.

Oct. 17: A suspicious odor was reported in the 300 block of North Birch Street. Suspicious activity was checked in Memorial Park.

Oct. 18: An unexploded “Drano Bomb” was reported on campus. Individuals were fingerprinted for employment purposes. A welfare check was provided for a motorist who was late.

Oct. 19: SRS received assistance with an investigation. Suspicious activity was checked downtown.

Oct. 20: A civil process was served in the 400 block of West Grand Avenue. A civil stand-by was provided in the 400 block of West Grand Avenue. An emergency message was delivered in the 400 block of North Ash Street. A dog complaint was checked in the 500 block of South Main Street. A domestic disturbance in the 400 block of West Grand Avenue was reported when an adult female reported being battered by her live-in boyfriend; charges are pending. Assistance was provided with the issuance of a peddler’s permit. An individual reported children were left at a day care and not picked up by parents. An officer responded to Hillsboro Community Hospital when suspicious injuries were reported; an adult male was being treated after he and several other males had reportedly been in a physical altercation, but none wanted to pursue charges.

Thursday: Lost property was returned to the owner. The sheriff’s department received assistance with removing an unwanted guest in the 400 block of South Main Street. A parent received assistance in locating a juvenile who did not return home from school; the juvenile was found at a friend’s residence. A dog complaint was checked in the 100 block of South Washington Street. Tabor College reported the theft of numerous rolls of toilet paper.

Friday: An abandoned bicycle was recovered in the 400 block of West Grand Avenue. An individual reported being assaulted Oct. 20 during an altercation. Officers assisted with a court-ordered change of custody at HES. Court services received assistance with an investigation. An out-of-control resident reportedly struck someone in the 400 block of North Ash Street; the adult was transported to a mental health facility; charges are pending.

Saturday: A camper hook-up was activated in Memorial Park. Assistance was provided to an individual in the 500 block of East D Street who was unable to pay for fuel after pumping it. A traffic complaint was checked in the 200 block of North Main Street. A suspicious person was checked in the 100 block of East Grand Avenue. A disturbance was reported in the 400 block of North Ash Street, when a resident reported being assaulted by another resident.
