A high-speed chase early Tuesday morning led officers from five agencies through western Marion County and northeast Harvey County.
Arrested were Kaitlyn J. Chadwick, 22, Olathe, Nathan C. Jones, 18, South Bend, Indiana, and Shelby Waddle, 27, Downing, Missouri.
It started at 1:15 a.m. when a deputy tried to pull over a car at Old Mill Rd. and U.S.-50 to warn the driver it had a headlight out.
Instead of pulling over, the car sped up, driving westbound on both sides of the road and veering into oncoming traffic at speeds as high as 95 mph while occupants of the vehicle threw bottles and baggies out the windows.
The car entered Harvey County and drove through Walton at speeds as high as 81 mph, turning right onto 3rd St., then to the Walton school, and back onto Main St., with the occupants still throwing bottles out the window.
A second Marion County deputy, two Harvey County deputies, and officers from Peabody, Hillsboro, and Hesston joined in the attempt to stop the car on its meandering route toward K-15.
Although officers set up road spikes in Harvey County in an attempt to flatten the car’s tires, one rear tire was already flat and the car continued at 44 mph.
Near 72nd Rd. in Harvey County, the car pulled over and its occupants fled on foot.
Officers caught up with the three suspects in a field.
Waddle, apparently the owner and driver of the car, was jailed on suspicion of attempting to elude law enforcement. No bond has been set for Waddle. Chadwick and Jones were jailed on suspicion of interference with law enforcement and are each held in lieu of $2,000 surety bond.
