Hearing set on house condemnation

Marion city council voted Monday to conduct a hearing June 13 about a dilapidated house deemed unfit to live in.
The house, at 413 S. 4th St., is occupied by Ashley and Justin Loomis, a brother and sister often jailed on suspicion of drug and theft offenses.
Both have criminal histories in Dickenson County as well, the most recent being 16 counts of theft and criminal damage to property filed Jan. 3 against Justin Loomis.
Marion authorities posted a notice on the door in late February giving the Loomises two weeks to move out, repair the property, or choose to have it demolished.
City administrator Roger Holter said the Loomises have not contacted the city. They apparently still reside there.
Appraisal records list the property as being owned by the Loomises’ late father, Michael T. Loomis, who died in June 2020.
At the June 13 hearing, owners, occupants, their agents, and any lienholders will have an opportunity to show why the structure should not be condemned and ordered repaired or demolished.
The notice posted on the door in February listed lack of water for sanitary facilities; disrepair of the residence; unsafe electrical cord power items in the residence and out building; and cleanliness of the residence, out buildings and property.
It notified the Loomises that if they failed to take care of those issues within two weeks, a hearing would be set to determine what would be done.
