Harry L. Spangler, 81, died Thursday at his residence in Wichita. He was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Peabody to Joseph and Vevia (Brock) Spangler.

Harry was a retired U.S. Navy chef, serving on various ships including the USS Cree, Abnaki, and Current.

Harry is survived by a brother, Steve Ford of Peabody; two sisters, Fern Stovall and Rose Grosse of Newton; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Harold and Robert Spangler.

Military graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Reserve, Wichita.
