Harold Gfeller

Services for Harold Eldon Gfeller, 94, who died Sept. 30 at Homestead assisted living in El Dorado, were Friday. Burial was in Wonsevu Cemetery.

Born Feb. 27, 1928, in Wichita to Arnold Robert and Alice Vera (Brenzikofer) Gfeller, he grew up on a family farm south of Burns and graduated in 1946 from Burns High School.

He worked on the farm until he went into the Army from 1951 to 1954. Upon his return, he married Mildred Jean Shanklin on June 24, 1956, in Wonsevu and working at Boeing, later at Beech, and finally at Union Tank, where he retired in 1994.

Survivors include children Jim Gfeller of Birmingham, Alabama; Tim Gfeller of El Dorado; Marilyn O’Bryan of Grapevine, Texas; and Carolyn Aikens of Towanda, along with 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

His wife and brothers Richard and Don Gfeller preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established with Temple Baptist Church of El Dorado and the Alzheimer’s Association.
