Nineteen golfers participated New Year’s Day in the George Holm Memorial Golf Tournament at Peabody Lakeside Country Club.

The first official tournament was Jan. 1, 1994 — Holm died Dec. 20, 1993. It was a tradition of Holm’s to golf on Jan. 1, regardless of the weather.

This year his daughter, Alexandra, participated in the tournament. She is a 2009 graduate of Peabody-Burns high School and attends Kansas State University.

Proceeds from the tournament are given to PBHS graduates who plan to continue their education.
