Goessel girls sprinted to a 60-15 win over Rural Vista on Friday, with 11 scoring in the game.
The taller Bluebirds stifled the Heat offense the entire half. Eden Hiebert scored 11 first-half points as Goessel led at halftime 32-7.
Six Bluebirds scored in the third quarter as Goessel outscored the visitors 18-4. The work of the starters was over at the end of the third period. A running clock in the fourth quarter allowed the game to end with a 45-point margin, 60-15.
Scoring leaders for the Bluebirds were E. Hiebert with 15, Page Hiebert, 10, and Aleena Cook, 10. Cook had 4 assists. Alicen Meysing led the team in rebounding with 7 and scored 7 points
Goessel is 5-0 on the season.
Boys overmatched
Rural Vista had too much firepower Friday for the Goessel boys to handle as the Bluebirds dropped their first Wheat State League contest 56-40.
Rhett Makovec ignited a 12-2 run that included baskets by Zach Wiens and a Chase Flaming 3-pointer, giving the Bluebirds a 12-8 lead.
Rural Vista responded by outscoring the Bluebirds 27-11 to lead at halftime 35-19.
Both offenses struggled after the break, and Rural Vista hit 11 free throws down the stretch to win 56-40.
Wiens led Goessel scorers with 16 points.
