Goessel boys add quickness

The Bluebirds will have experience in the point guard position and add quickness to their defensive strengths for this new basketball season.

Junior Dylan Lindeman, 6’3”, has been a key player bringing the ball up the floor. He scored 10.2 points per game last year with 5.4 rebounds per game.

His keen sense of being where the ball goes helped the Bluebirds.

Jerah Schmidt, a 5’6” junior averaged 3.2 points per game and 1.2 assists per game.

Shooting from long range and sharing the point guard position will be Schmidt’s contribution.

Zach Zogleman, a senior at 5’8” will contribute on defense and look to improve his 1.1 points per game average from a year ago.

Jacob Hagewood, a 5’10” junior, will also be expected to surprise teams with his quickness inside and speed down the floor.

Drew Lindeman, a 6’ 4” senior, has been out with injuries for two seasons, and the expectations are that he will contribute immediately to the success of the team.

The excitement is building on the practice floor.

“We are working hard and hope to run the floor more this year than last,” said Dylan Lindeman.

His brother Drew added, “We are tall, quick and have some good depth on the bench.”

“We will be more aggressive and hope to have more scoring,” Zach added.

The Bluebirds averaged 34 points per game last year.

“I am excited about this season. Just look at the numbers,” coach Curtis Guhr said.

Along with the regular season, Goessel is hoping to schedule a number of C team games to give the younger players much needed experience.

“It is nice to see the accountability that is already working with this team, Guhr said. “We have good leadership and the team is buying into that.”

Goessel finished the season last year with a 3-18 overall record and 2-7 in the Wheat State League.

The team is coached by Guhr, Chad Lindeman, and Jesse Brown.

Guhr expects Goessel to finish in the middle of a very competitive league.

The Bluebirds will again be competing in the 2A division for the season.
