Giving Tuesday comes to Peabody

Move over Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday — here comes Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving.

Peabody Community Foundation and Peabody-Burns schools will bring this event to Peabody by jointly sponsoring Giving Tuesday/Winterfest at PBHS from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 29.  The come-and-go event begins with a soup supper buffet offered for donation by high school student organizations.

Giving Tuesday offers an opportunity for community members to give to charities and causes in their community.  Ten local groups will be available with information about their work.  Attendees will be invited to donate time, supplies, and/or money, and as a thank-you, receive a hand-made Christmas tree ornament.

Participating organizations include Achievers 4-H Club, Avenue of Flags, Peabody Association of Churches, First Baptist Church, Peabody Food Pantry, The Hub, Partners of Peabody Parks, Peabody Township Library, Senior Center, and Sorosis Beta.

At 7 p.m., Warrior sports teams will scrimmage, pep band will play, and cheerleaders will hold a dance contest.  Later in the evening awards for PCF fall grant cycle will be announced.

Elementary students will present “’Twas the Night before Christmas” to conclude the program.  Chris Young will be master of ceremonies for Winterfest.
