Girls commit to community, selves

Daily workouts on weights, basketball and volleyball skills, scrimmaging two nights a week, and making time to help others kept members of the Peabody-Burns women’s sports teams busy this summer.

“They put their efforts toward the gym and the community,” basketball coach Travis Schafer said.

The Warriors made a commitment to their school, district, and community to put others first to create positive and trusting relationships.

Nothing valuable in this world comes free or easy, but with grit, a sense of purpose, and family community, anything can be accomplished, Schafer said.

This philosophy helped the girls’ set their goals to become remarkable citizens and role models for each generation to come through their school district, he said.

During the summer months, the young ladies “weren’t afraid to give up an evening and get dirty! Their hard work will one day pay off, but achieving goals takes a family community to make those goals worthwhile” Schafer said.
