Georgia Lalouette
Georgia “Georgie” Anna Ubben Lalouette died on April 12, 2014, at Marion Assisted Living Center from natural causes. She was 95 years old.
Georgia was born in Marion, Kan., on Jan. 24, 1919, to Dick and Susan Conyers Ubben. As a baby, she was christened in the Cedar Point, Kan., church. When she was 3 months old, her family moved to a farm northwest of Cedar Point, where Georgia attended school and church for three years.
When Georgia was 8 years old, the family moved to a farm northeast of Peabody, Kan., where she attended a country school for two years. Her family then moved to Peabody, where she attended school and graduated from Peabody High School in 1937.
While living in Peabody, Georgia was a regular member of the Peabody Baptist Church. She was an active church member and loved working with the younger members and also was a member of the church choir.
After high school, Georgia worked as a dental assistant for Dr. William Jessen.
On Oct. 12., 1940, Georgia married August Earnest Lalouette of LLL Ranch near Florence, Kan. She was married to August for 59 years when August passed away in 1998. During those 59 years, Georgia actively worked on the LLL Ranch with her husband and two sons. Georgia continued to live on the ranch after August passed, until 2011 when she relocated to Marion Assisted Living Center for medical reasons.
Georgia remained a member of the Cedar Point Church for 64 years and served as a 4-H leader for 18 years. Georgia was an avid bridge player, loved gardening and fishing, and had a love for music as she played the piano, organ, and accordion.
Georgia was known as the “doll lady” for her very large doll collection and ability to sew doll clothes and create and repair dolls. Georgia also was a talented taxidermist. Georgia worked on the LLL Ranch for more than 70 years, and people in the community often contacted Georgia for help fixing their balers.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, August; three brothers, Howard, Bill, and Wayne Ubben; and five sisters, Minnie Swartz, Mildred Suffield, Aliene Anderson, Ruth Chance, and Rena Topham.
Georgia leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Nancy Lalouette of Cedar Point, Les and Brenda Lalouette of Florence; Marilyn Lalouette of Newton; and one sister-in-law, Ireeta Ubben of Phillipsburg.
She also leaves four grandchildren, Lynn Lalouette and his wife, Tracie Strain, of Newton, Peggy Lalouette of Aurora, Colo., Lynette Roberts of Newton, and Lori Lalouette and her husband, Randy Crawford, of Hillsboro; and five great-grandchildren, Laban and Chase Lalouette, Megan Roberts, Bayleigh Clark, and Taylor Sisneros.
Graveside service and burial took place at the Cedar Point Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Marion Assisted Living Center.
