Gary Carlson

Carlson’s TV and Satellite owner Gary L. Carlson, 79, died Oct. 6 at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

He was born Jan. 22, 1936, to Carl and Gladys (Davis) Carlson on his grandparents’ farm in Clay County. He attended Clay Center High School.

On June 3, 1956, he married Shirley Walker at Clay Center. They moved to Marion in 1957, and he opened a TV repair busness in 1958.

He also furnished and operated sound systems for local school programs and community events.

The Carlsons had four children, and they engaged in outdoor activities with family and friends. The couple also traveled and played cards regularly with friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Everell and Dennis; a granddaughter, Mattie Carlson; and a great-grandson, Ryder Reece.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Greg, Brad, and Mitch, all of Marion, and Cindy Reece of Hillsboro; sister, Joyce Ashton of Kimberling City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion. Interment was in Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the church.
