From pumpkin patch to Thanksgiving dinner

Members of the culinary essentials class at Peabody-Burns High School were busy during the past week preparing pumpkin pies to donate to the Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

The pumpkins were selected from the patch for their school colors — one white and two blue.

The students began the process by making the pie shells and freezing them. Later they cut the pumpkin and boiled it with water to create a creamy soft consistency.

On Friday, the day of the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, the students made pumpkin pies.

Other community service projects for this class have been providing cookies for Family Fun Night at the elementary school earlier this fall and preparing lemon meringue and pumpkin tarts for the Peabody Community Foundation.

Cathy Silvers is the class instructor.
