Foundation donations to be matched
Up to $70,000 given to Peabody Community Foundation between now and Dec. 31 will be matched by Patterson Family Foundation.
Donations to any of the foundation’s 29 funds qualify, but the foundation is highlighting its community improvement and housing fund, charitable programs and organizations, city pool maintenance, and operating funds.
“This opportunity from the Patterson Family Foundation really ramps up our annual campaign,” foundation director Becky Nickel said. “$70,000 is almost double the matching money we met last year during our fall campaign, and I’m very hopeful that we will reach this stretch goal. Gifts of any size will help us get there.”
The foundation will partner with Peabody-Burns schools to sponsor a Winterfest and Giving Tuesday event 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the middle and high school, 810 N Sycamore St.
Giving Tuesday will feature 15 local charities, most of which have been supported with past grants from the community foundation. Donors can give directly to the charities or to the foundation, in which case donations may be matched. A soup supper will be offered by donation.
Winterfest will begin at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. Winter sports teams and cheerleaders will be introduced, free-throw finalists will compete, and winners of drawings or raffles will be announced.
Four grants of $250 each will be awarded to teachers to support classroom projects such as a tablet for the library, printmaking supplies for art classes, and calculators and other resources for math classes.
