Former Marionites are rodeo winners
Staff writer
Justin and Jake Peterson and their mother, Callie, were members of a ranch rodeo team that finished second in the recent World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo.
Justin was honored as Top Hand and won the bronc riding competition. His efforts earned Haywire Cattle Company of El Dorado first place in bronc riding and branding events.
The ranch is owned by Andy and Callie Jones and Andy’s parents, Randy and Kim Jones. Andy, Randy, and hired man, Clint Bohnen were the other members of the team.
Justin, 23, and Jake, 18, were born at Marion and attended Marion Elementary and Middle schools. Callie operated Signatures Salon in Marion for 10 or 12 years. Haywire Cattle qualified for world competition by winning the Kansas Championship Ranch Rodeo Sept. 28 to 29 at Medicine Lodge.
Two other Kansas ranches placed in the top four. The championship was won by a team from Erie, and the fourth-place team was from Fall River. The third-place team was from Oklahoma.
