Rez Rentals, a new Hillsboro business, rents kayaks, paddle boards, and bicycles to visitors who didn’t bring their own.

Jane Brewer and her husband, Jeff, got the idea soon after they moved to the county in 2019.

“We live about a mile from the reservoir,” she said. “I couldn’t believe there were no places to rent equipment. Then we were thinking if they are like us, and they come in a minivan or a car, they don’t have any way to bring it to the lake.”

The couple delivers equipment to Marion Reservoir and Marion County Lake, and picks it up when the renter is finished with it.

“We’ll bring them anyplace in Marion County,” Brewer said.

They’ve even delivered equipment to Chase County Fishing Lake.

Hourly rentals for kayaks and paddle boards are $20. A weekend rental is $100.

Bicycles rent for $25 a day.

Brewer said a reservation was a good idea to ensure people get what they want.

Renters need to be 18 years of age. The couple does not offer guide service.

“We provide life jackets for every kayak or paddle board renter,” she said.

The business does not provide bicycle helmets.
