Football season ends for PBHS

The Peabody-Burns High School football season ended Friday with the final district game at home.
The Warriors were defeated by the Moundridge Wildcats 57-13. The team did not record a victory during the season.
Moundridge took the opening kick-off and wasted no time finding the end zone.
On the second play of the game, a Wildcat took the ball around the left end and ran 61 yards for the score.
The extra point was no good but within the first minute of the contest, Moundridge took a 6-0 lead.
Storm Pickens set up Warrior offense at its own 30 with a return of the Wildcat kick-off.
Henry Hammann and Jacob Simmonds both rushed on the series, but on a fourth-and-10 at the 43, Brandon Pickens punted the ball.
Despite good defensive plays by Derek Price, Brandon Pickens, Caleb Hilliard, and Trevor Foth, Moundridge moved the ball 68 yards for another score.
A run through the middle plus a pass for the two-point conversion gave the Wildcats a 14-0 lead with six minutes, two seconds left in the first quarter.
With less than 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Moundridge put up two more scores.
The Wildcats scored on a pass play with eight seconds left to make the score 21-0.
The final first quarter score came when the Warriors fumbled on an exchange between Simmonds and Hammann and the Wildcats fell on the ball in the end zone.
The first quarter ended with Moundridge leading the Warriors 27-0.
Price set up the PBHS offense at the Warrior 25 with an early second quarter kick-off return.
Price took over as quarterback and called a keeper to move the sticks on a first quarter run.
Storm Pickens rushed on first down.
On second down, Price connected with Brian Wingert for a 62-yard touchdown.
Wingert added one with the kick and PBHS was on the board, 27-7, early in the second period.
Moundridge continued to run up the score before the half. Two more touchdowns, a two-point conversion, and an extra point kick made the score 42-7 at the break.
First half defensive plays were made by Hilliard, Price, Brandon Pickens, Simmonds, Foth, Tyler Slater, Sean Jones, Hammann, Chris Brooks, and Wingert.
Storm Pickens set up the first offensive series in the second half at the Warrior 25 with the return of the kick-off.
Hilliard took over as quarterback and he and Storm Pickens rushed on the series.
The series ended with a punt by Brandon Pickens.
The Wildcats added two more touchdowns in the game, scoring on a pass play in the third quarter and a run early in the fourth. Moundridge led 57-7 with most of the fourth quarter left to play.
PBHS marked the end of the 2008 season with one more touchdown late in the game.
Starting at midfield, Storm Pickens and Hammann combined to cover 53 yards on the ground.
Storm Pickens put the ball in the end zone on a first-and-goal at the Wildcat two-yard line. The extra point kick was unsuccessful, and PBHS lost, 57-13.
Foth, Price, Hilliard, Daniel Martinez, Sean Brunner, Brody Kyle, Storm Pickens, and Spencer Moffett all got in on second half defensive plays.
Price had one pass for 63 yards and a touchdown.
Simmonds was 5-12 through the air for a total of 19 yards.
Wingert caught one pass for a touchdown.
Storm Pickens rushed 11 times for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Brandon Pickens ran twice for 24 yards, Hammann ran nine times for 24 yards, Price three times for 13 yards, and Hilliard rushed six times for nine yards.
Hilliard led the defense with 13 tackles.
Foth was next with 4.5 and Hammann had four.
Price had 3.5 tackles and Storm Pickens had two.
Brunner and Slater had 1.5 each, Brooks, Brandon Pickens, Wingert, Kyle, and Moffett each had one tackle. Martinez and Simmonds each had .5.
