Florence post office hours cut 41%

News editor

The Florence post office’s hours have been cut by 15 hours per week. The change went into effect Saturday.

Previously the hours were 8 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 to 9:15 a.m. Saturday. Now the hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday — a reduction of 41 percent.

Suzan Stroup, officer in charge of the Florence post office, said the hours that have been cut weren’t very busy before the change. When the reduced hours became inevitable, the Postal Service surveyed customers about what hours of operation are most important and kept those hours, Stroup said.

Trucks will continue to pick up from the post office at the same time, 2:15 p.m., so customers may still mail items until that time as long as they use the outside mail box.

Marion Postmaster Lori Kelsey, who supervises several smaller post offices, said mail will continue to get to Florence residents on the same schedule.
