Florence hires utility clerk

The City of Florence soon will have a new employee around its offices, after hiring Kristi Darnall as utility clerk.

The part-time position is 24 hours a week at $10 an hour.

Council members first discussed hiring a new utility clerk several months ago when former utility clerk Dana Gayle began filling in as city clerk. She then was hired as full-time city clerk in late August, increasing the need for a new utility clerk.

The city also decided to expand city superintendent Terry Britton’s duties to include animal control.

“The bad thing is that Terry’s been doing this job as an animal control guy for a while for us,” councilman Matt Williams said at Monday’s council meeting. “It just covers everything by making it official.”
